Anishinaabe Wiigwaasi-Jiimaan (Birch Bark Canoe) Build
In August, the WEOHT Indigenous Lead Barbara Colaizzi had the honour to participate in a two-week build of an Anishinaabe wiigwaasi-jiimaan (birch bark canoe) with members of Caldwell First Nation and Walpole First Nation. The Great Lakes Lifeways Institute (GLLI) recently partnered on the construction.
On August 24th, the canoe was launched at the Marsh Boardwalk at Point Pelee National Park.
The WEOHT is happy to share the news article for more information on this traditional event and celebration. –SunpointSun
