MMS update: October 2023

Mobile. Medical. Support. (MMS) is a community liaison team of healthcare professionals looking to help clients in High Priority Communities (HPC) overcome barriers that prevent them from seeking healthcare and linking into community resources. After being on a brief pause while highly skilled healthcare professionals were recruited and trained to continue supporting our community’s diverse needs, MMS will again be travelling throughout Windsor-Essex to bring mobile healthcare and access to partnering agencies and social supports to HPC throughout the region. With access to primary care check-ups, preventative care (ie. cancer screening, vaccinations), mental health support, substance/addiction services, and community connections (ie. housing assistance, Ontario Works), MMS clients receive specialized care excellence that supports their overall health and wellness. All services are available to clients of all ages on a walk-in basis, free of cost. OHIP not required.

MMS update: May 2023

The Mobile Medical Support (MMS) team hosted a clinic at the Welcome Centre Shelter on May 6th before taking a brief pause in operations to restructure the program to best meet your healthcare needs. During that time, we’ve kept busy!

We are recruiting two Part Time Registration Clerks, APPLY HERE

We have engaged in co design with the Patient, Family, and Caregiver
Partnership Council of the OHT to ensure our program continues to meet the priorities of the community

CMHA Community Health Centre: March events

Open to the public

Hosting Pop-Up Covid-19 Vaccination Clinics in coordination with the Windsor Essex County Health Unit in order to increase vaccine access in high priority neighbourhoods.
March is National Nutrition Month! 3 Workshops are being offered:
- Food and Exercise for Your Mental Health on March 8 from 2:00-3:00pm
- What Foods to Eat for Preventing Chronic Disease on March 9th from 12:05pm-12:55pm
- Cooking Light on a Budget on Tuesday, March 21st from 10:30am-12pm

Open to agency clients

Hosting several “Healing Through the Arts: Art Therapy for Beginners Workshops”. Participants will explore and express thoughts and feelings through creativity.
In collaboration with Windsor Essex Community Health Centre, we are hosting a Master your Health Series focused on Living with Chronic Pain.

The Substance Abuse Program for African and Caribbean Canadian Youth (SAPACCY)

Teen Health location

This program, for African Canadian and Caribbean Youth (SAPACCY) promotes improved mental wellness for young people who identify as African, Caribbean and/or Black. SAPACCY provides community-based mental health and/or substance use services that are holistic, anti-oppressive, Africentric, and culturally safe for Black youth (ages 12-29) and their families/caregivers.

Who is the service for?

Black youth ages 12-29 (and their family/caregivers) that are experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges.

Services offered:

individual and group counselling and psychotherapy;
addictions and/or substance use supports;
comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment and treatment planning;
mental health promotion and prevention;
intensive case management;
wraparound supports and referral services;
caregiver support groups;
trauma-informed and healing-centered interventions; and,
crisis intervention.

Intensive Outpatient Eating Disorders Program

BANA and WECHC Teen Health

As of May 2022, a new Intensive Outpatient program for Eating Disorders is offered in Windsor-Essex. This program is offered in collaboration with Windsor Regional Hospital and Bulimia Anorexia Nervosa Association (BANA). The program offers a variety of groups and individual sessions and is designed to assist individuals aged 16 years and older with serious eating disorders. Interested individuals can access program information through a regional intake phone number, toll-free at 1-855-969-5530.

Southwestern Ontario Youth Gender Diversity Clinic

Teen Health location

In collaboration with Dr. Ian Johnson and Chatham Kent CHC, the Windsor Essex Community Health Centre (weCHC) is happy to announce a new service for transgender children and youth in Windsor-Essex. Youth gender diversity clinics are held every Wednesday at our Teen Health location on Ouellette Avenue for youth up to 18 years old. Services include: Assessment & diagnosis of gender dysphoria, managing common comorbid mental health conditions, assessment of starting hormone blockers and affirming hormone therapy, prescribing of hormone or blockers and monitoring of treatment.

International Agricultural Workers

Leamington location

In Windsor-Essex, we are lucky to have the support of thousands of International Agri Workers (IAW). The CHC Greenhouse teams continue to provide health care work at multiple farms. Our 33 Princess location is also home to a Sunday walk-in clinic from 10-5. The WECHC is hard at work, providing vaccines, ongoing primary care as well as episodic care to our International Agri Workers in our community. Numerous Spanish speaking staff and “WeSpeak” enable us to provide the care needed in any language. Our Sunday walk in clinic supports anyone who is undocumented/without OHIP, who may not have another pathway to care.

The Mobile Medical Support clinic is on the road

As of September 26, 2022 the Mobile Medical Support (MMS) clinic is officially on route to supporting our most vulnerable residents. The goal of MMS is to have a multipronged strategy with Primary Care and community partners working with High Priority Community clients to provide chronic disease management services, health promotion, preventative care, education, outreach, social supports, emergency room diversion, and mental health services.

Health Minister Sylvia Jones was present at the launch of the MMS clinic and the Mental Health and Addictions Response Team (MHART).
